The lower jaw of an adult, which was found at the site of Lee Adoyta, in the Ledi-Geraru area of Ethiopia, is currently considered to be possibly the oldest remains (so far found) of a member of the genus Homo. This jaw shows a combination of morphological characteristics of early australopithecines, but also derived morphological characteristics found in the genus Homo and therefore the find is attributed to the genus Homo.
The meaning of the species name Homo is Latin for man.
