The morphology of the skull from the Bodo site was first interpreted as a combination of the characteristics of the species Homo erectus and Homo sapiens. The skull shows similarities with Indonesian remains of Homo erectus (Sangiran 17), Middle Pleistocene European remains (Petralona and Arago 21) and with an African find of later date (Kabwe). There are incisions on the face of this skull, traces of cutting and cleaning the flesh from the face that occurred after the death of this individual. Considering the derived morphological characteristics and the increased volume of the brain compared to Homo erectus, some see in the population of this individual the starting point of the development of modern man - Homo sapiens, while others attribute it to the species Homo heidelbergensis.
