Large part of the collection was collected after World War II, when the exploration work in the mine was led by mining geologist Prof. Friedrich Schumacher, who handed over the numerous mineralogical specimens obtained for scientific study to Tućan's student, then already a world-renowned mineralogist, Professor Ljudevit Barić, curator and later the director of the Mineralogical and Petrographic Museum in Zagreb.
While working there in the post-war period, Professor Barić collected a large number of interesting mineralogical specimens on which he conducted detailed research on the fibrous variety of the minerals boulangerite (plumosite), barite and the very rare and highly valued minerals vivianite and ludlamite.
After the 1980s, the Collection was significantly supplemented by gifts from the mine and the purchase of specimens at international mineral fairs, and more recently by donations from private collections.
