ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION (BY SPORES)

In the life cycle of mosses and ferns, there is a distinct alternation of asexual and sexual generations. The asexual generation (sporophyte) produces spores, which are dispersed, most often by the wind, over various distances, and then germinate on suitable soil (moist areas) into independent gametophytes (the sexual generation).
On them, male and female reproductive organs develop, where gametes are produced, and through water, fertilization occurs, leading to the formation of a zygote from which a sporophyte develops.
